Welcome!

Dear Subscriber,

I will be participating in the Asia‑Pacific Summit organized by IHK Stuttgart on June 17, alongside representatives from German Chambers of Commerce across Asia, industry leaders, and political stakeholders. Save the date and join us for a high‑level program tailored to companies looking to deepen their engagement with Asia.

We are also still accepting registrations for two of our most anticipated networking events in June: German Riesling Night on June 4 and our 4th Annual Soccer Tournament on June 26. German companies in Taiwan are warmly invited to register a team and take part in a dynamic day of sports, networking, and giving back to the community.

The coming week will be particularly exciting for us, with a strong focus on aerospace. We will be welcoming a delegation of 12 German aerospace companies to Taiwan, who will take part in our Taiwanese‑German Aerospace Conference next Tuesday. Adding to the momentum, our colleague Dr. Jürgen Maurer from Germany Trade & Invest has just published a timely article on Taiwan’s recent growth in aerospace investment and capacity. A summary of the article can be found below.

Our members in Taiwan have also been very active. Covestro Taiwan was invited to speak at the 2026 TOP100⁺ Future Forum hosted by the Plastics Industry Development Center (PIDC), where the company highlighted how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) are embedded in its sustainability strategy and community engagement. Meanwhile, igus published its 2025 business figures, reporting €124.4 million in investments in infrastructure, automation, and global subsidiaries, alongside a 4.4 percent increase in turnover to €1.155 billion.

In the latest news from Taiwanese business and industry, Taiwan continues to strengthen its position across advanced technology sectors—from significant new investments by Google in data centers and semiconductors, to surging drone exports driven by European demand, expanded aerospace and defense production led by AIDC, and a sharp rise in global equity rankings powered by Taiwan’s central role in the AI and semiconductor boom.

Wishing you a productive and inspiring week ahead!

We Say Goodbye To Our Long-Time Intern Vicky Lee

Over the past year, Vicky has been a wonderful support to our Government Affairs and Events Team, helping organize seminars and delegation visits. We had an especially busy calendar of networking events last year, hosting three Christmas markets and two Oktoberfests, and Vicky provided invaluable support in making it happen.

Vicky also lent her excellent language and communication skills to process inquiries and translate content for our weekly newsletters and social media.

Beyond her hard work, we’ll miss Vicky’s cheerful presence, positive energy, and warm smile around the office. Thank you, Vicky! We wish you every success for what’s next.

New Deep Dive | Taiwan Expands on Its Aerospace Industry

Taiwan's space program has two main goals: strengthening national resilience and cultivating new growth sectors. The government has integrated the space industry into its national security strategy and is expanding Taiwan’s role in global satellite supply chains through international partnerships.

Taiwanese firms are collaborating with German partners, including Tensor Tech, which is working with the German start-up Reflex Aerospace to develop satellite navigation systems. Several of the island's CubeSat developers are working with Berlin-based Exolaunch, a company that specializes in launching small satellites. Additionally, the Taiwan Space Agency commissioned German electronics manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz to build an electromagnetic compatibility and antenna measurement testing station.

In late 2025, Taiwan launched the Zeppelin satellite into Earth’s orbit, part of its FORMOSAT 8 program. Largely developed and sourced domestically, the satellite is part of a broader plan to deploy a network of eight remote-sensing satellites by 2031. Meanwhile, Taiwan is expanding its expertise in CubeSats, small satellites that are cheaper to produce and operate in low Earth orbit (LEO), thereby enhancing communications infrastructures. The global LEO satellite market is projected to grow from USD 15.8 billion in 2024 to USD 74.5 billion by 2035.

Currently, Taiwan lacks the capacity to launch large or small satellites domestically, but it aims to establish its own rocket launch capacity by the early 2030s. A Rocket Research Center is under construction in Tainan, alongside plans for a southern launch site. The Taiwan Space Agency is supporting innovation by pledging USD 108 million through 2029 and creating accelerators for space-related startups in cooperation with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).

Overall, Taiwan’s aerospace industry is seeking to integrate more deeply into international supply chains by leveraging its strengths in semiconductor and ICT manufacturing. The government has signed space activity cooperation agreements with Japan, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, and, most recently, the United Kingdom. Draft legislation with the United States is also underway to facilitate joint space development.

Taiwan, South Korea Climb Global Equity Ranks on AI

Taiwan and South Korea are rapidly climbing global equity rankings as the AI boom drives massive gains in their tech‑heavy stock markets. Taiwan’s market has grown to nearly US$4.3 trillion, surpassing the UK, while South Korea is close behind, fueled by soaring shares of TSMC, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix—key suppliers of AI hardware.

The shift highlights Asia’s central role in the global AI supply chain, with strong export growth, rising investor confidence, and expanding opportunities beyond a few dominant firms. While tech stocks carry heavy index weightings, analysts see AI investment broadening across the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem, drawing both global and retail investors into the region’s markets.

Taiwan Drone Exports Top US$100 Million in Q1: MOEA

Taiwan’s drone exports surged past US$100 million in Q1 2026, exceeding the total for all of 2025, with complete drone exports reaching US$115.85 million, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Czech Republic emerged as the largest buyer, accounting for nearly US$100 million, followed by Poland.

The rapid growth is driven by rising global demand for non‑China supply chains, geopolitical tensions in Central and Eastern Europe, and Taiwan’s strengths in key drone components. The government is supporting long‑term expansion through trade shows, business matchmaking, and industrial cooperation with European partners.
