Taiwan’s Exports to Germany Grow Nearly 30% in Q1 2026
|
|
|
Last week we presented new figures from the Ministry of Finance on Taiwan-Germany Trade in Q1 2026. They demonstrate continued growth, led by strong gains in Taiwan’s exports. Shipments to Germany rose 28.3 percent year on year to USD 2.12 billion, driven by sharp increases in electronic components and ICT products, reflecting Taiwan’s key role in Germany’s high‑tech and AI supply chains.
Imports from Germany reached USD 3.12 billion, with overall volumes slightly down, but precision machinery imports rose 24.1 percent, supporting Taiwan’s semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sectors. Dr. Eva Langerbeck said: “The trade figures for the first quarter of 2026 once again demonstrate the strong complementarity between Taiwanese and German industries. The more than 70% growth in electronic component exports, together with nearly 25% growth in imports of German precision machinery, clearly reflects the close linkages between both sides in smart manufacturing and AI-driven transformation. Taiwan’s strengths in ICT and semiconductors, combined with Germany’s expertise in industrial technologies and manufacturing equipment, provide a solid foundation for further industrial upgrading and long-term cooperation.”
The GTO also noted growing interest from German companies expanding in Asia, with Taiwan seen as a stable and attractive partner. Dr. Langerbeck added: “Taiwan offers a solid foundation in semiconductors, AI hardware, and smart manufacturing, making it an important export and import partner for German companies looking to expand into the Asian market.” Our office will continue promoting cooperation through industry events and community initiatives.

Compared with its predecessor, it is significantly lighter, more compact, and more cost-efficient, while remaining lubrication- and maintenance-free thanks to high-performance plastics. The split igubal flange bearings impressed for enabling up to 80 percent faster installation in hard-to-reach areas, while also reducing weight and operating costs.
Completing the trio, the igusGO app introduces an intuitive, gamified approach to product selection. By analyzing photos of applications with AI, the app suggests suitable igus components within seconds, links directly to the online shop, and offers an immersive user experience across mobile and web platforms.

CRIF Expects 2026 Exports to Surpass US$800 Billion
Taiwan's credit information agency CRIF expects the nation’s export momentum to remain strong, forecasting that full‑year shipments will exceed US$800 billion for the first time, driven mainly by AI‑related demand. Despite concerns over the US‑Iran conflict, CRIF said Taiwan’s AI‑focused export structure would limit the impact of Middle East tensions.
Exports hit a record US$80.18 billion last month, pushing first‑quarter shipments to an all‑time high of US$195.74 billion. CRIF projects quarterly exports above US$200 billion for the rest of the year and full‑year growth of nearly 38 percent, supported by strong semiconductor, ICT, and electronics demand.

Taiwan to Expand Reclaimed Water Plants for Industry
The Taiwanese government plans to expand reclaimed water infrastructure by building nine additional plants to support industrial demand and offset reduced rainfall linked to climate change. With seven plants already operating, total daily reclaimed water supply is expected to exceed 500,000 tonnes, supporting water‑intensive sectors such as semiconductor manufacturing.
Reclaimed water, unaffected by rainfall, is seen as a stable alternative to tap water for industry. Alongside this expansion, the government is investing in seawater desalination plants in Hsinchu and Tainan, due to be completed in 2028, further strengthening Taiwan’s long‑term water security.
