German Pavilion Gears Up for SEMICON Taiwan 2026!

The German Trade Office Taipei recently participated in the SEMICON Taiwan 2026 Global Pavilion Press Conference, where our Chief Representative & Executive Director, Dr. Eva Langerbeck, represented Germany alongside international delegates from around the world. During the event, she also spoke with television and print media, highlighting Germany’s strengths in the semiconductor industry and the growing opportunities for German–Taiwan cooperation.

Organized by the German Trade Office Taipei and Silicon Saxony, the German Pavilion will return to SEMICON Taiwan for the fifth consecutive year. This year, the pavilion will feature 20 German companies—an 11% increase compared to last year—while also expanding its exhibition space, reflecting the continued commitment of German companies to the Taiwanese market and the strong momentum of bilateral semiconductor collaboration.

This year's SEMICON Taiwan Global Pavilion brings together 18 participating countries, setting a new record for international participation. Germany is proud to be one of the countries that has maintained a national pavilion for five consecutive editions. As AI continues to drive global semiconductor investment, SEMI forecasts that worldwide semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales will reach USD 165.9 billion in 2026, representing 23.2% year-on-year growth—underscoring both the industry's remarkable momentum and the importance of international collaboration.

On July 16, our Chief Representative and Executive Director Dr. Eva Langerbeck visited Taoyuan for the opening of Taiwan Order’s new International Logistics Center. Order Group, Taiwan’s leading home furnishing brand, has invested over NT$3.3 billion to build the logistics complex in Taoyuan’s Shalun Industrial Park.

Located near Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the facility serves as a key hub for efficient logistics and distribution. It not only features smart manufacturing systems developed in collaboration with Germany’s HOMAG Group and Italy’s SCM Group but also advanced solar power generation and rainwater recycling systems, supporting the company’s commitment to green energy.

Dr. Langerbeck stated that the facility is far more than just a modern logistics center; it stands as a forward-looking investment in automation, digitalization, and green manufacturing, reflecting a shared German and Taiwanese vision for future-oriented industrial development and sustainable economic growth.

On July 17, our team enjoyed a special Office Trip at Cooking & Living in the Tsutaya Bookstore at Songshan Station, where around 20 colleagues came together to explore the world of sustainable food through a hands-on experience.

From making fresh tofu from scratch to transforming it into a variety of delicious dishes, we experienced the journey from ingredient to table firsthand. Along the way, we learned more about the farm-to-table philosophy, sustainable food choices, and how every step in the food chain can make a difference.

We also joined a coffee tasting workshop, where we discovered how to identify different aromas, flavors, acidity, and body—showing us that every cup tells a story about its origin, production methods, and local culture.

As the German Trade Office Taipei, we regularly work with companies across the food, agriculture, and consumer sectors. Experiences like these help us better understand the growing importance of sustainability, quality, and responsible consumption—not only as global industry trends, but also as values we can apply in our everyday lives.

Cargo bikes typically require significant maintenance. Tested under a 120 kg load per wheel and repeated pothole-like impacts, the wheels remained reliable after 10,000 km.

The new wheel solution features rotational moulding, where molten plastic powder is evenly distributed inside a rotating wheel mould and then hardened into a single-piece structure. Many delivery operators frequently need to tighten wheel spokes and re-center their wheels, leading to extra downtime and labor. With igus' new one-piece wheel design, these issues are eliminated, making such maintenance a thing of the past.

Once the wheels have reached the end of their service life, they can be returned to igus for recycling, which offers bike manufacturers and fleet operators a sustainable solution that combines durability, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

Taiwanese Energy Companies Expand into the United States

Sino-American Silicon and United Renewable Energy are investing US$40 million in a joint venture to establish a solar panel manufacturing facility in the United States, intended to meet growing clean energy demand in the United States, particularly from expanding AI data centers.

The firms said the partnership will strengthen service and supply flexibility in North America, enabling them to capitalize on US energy transition policies and incentives. The project further aims to highlight Taiwan’s contribution to building trusted and localized production as well as to the global clean energy transition.

Taiwan's Second-Largest Memory Module Supplier Reports Record First-Half Profit

Transcend Information reported record second-quarter earnings, with net profit rising 46.5%, contributing to a record first-half profit of NT$20.02 billion, the highest in the company’s 37-year history. Taiwan's second-largest memory module supplier benefited from strong demand for memory chips used in AI, industrial automation, and high-performance computing. As growth across these sectors accelerates, Transcend expects strong demand for high-density memory modules in the second half of the year.

To support future demand, Transcend has secured long-term supply agreements with leading memory chip manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, covering DDR4, DDR5, and flash memory products.

Taiwan Wants to Raise Offshore Wind Capacity Eightfold by 2039

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) plans to expand offshore wind capacity to nearly 28 gigawatts by 2039, up from 3.4 gigawatts last year, in order to strengthen energy security and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.

The government is accelerating renewable energy development to meet growing electricity demand from the semiconductor, AI, and technology industries. Electricity demand is forecast to increase by an average of 2.5% per year from this year to 2035.

Third Major Research Institute Projects GDP Growth over 10 Percent

Last week, the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) revised its GDP growth outlook upward, increasing its forecast from 7.56 percent in April to 10.38 percent. According to its president, Gordon Chang, the export boom is beginning to extend beyond the technology industry. Rising stock markets have boosted household wealth, while a recovery in outbound tourism has increased spending on travel-related services, providing broader support for economic growth.

Despite the more optimistic growth forecast, TIER left its inflation projection unchanged at 1.98 percent for the year, slightly below the central bank’s 2 percent target. Nevertheless, the institute cautioned that inflation risks should not be overlooked, citing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and growing costs associated with booming AI-driven demand.
