Germany brings deep expertise in industrial technologies, precision equipment, and automation, while Taiwan has world-leading semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and a dynamic technology ecosystem. Our strengths are highly complementary, which we demonstrated last week at SEMICON Taiwan.

This year, the German Pavilion not only reached a new record with 31 participating organizations, but also served as a platform for an MoU signing between the cities of Chemnitz and Kaohsiung, reflecting that Germany–Taiwan semiconductor cooperation is entering a new phase. 

Looking ahead, we are pleased to invite you to our Taiwan–Germany Forum: Building Bridges in Robotics on November 12, where experts from both countries will share their knowledge about current developments and trends in the industry and explore new opportunities. We are also preparing for Harbour Beats in Kaohsiung on October 31 and November 1, followed by our German Christmas Markets in New Taipei (December 4–6), Taipei (December 11–13), and Taoyuan (December 18–20), bringing German traditions, food, and festive spirit to Taiwan once again.

We are also excited to announce a new partnership with the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) and CENTOGENE through this year's Goose Dinner. Donations raised through the event's lucky draw will support TFRD's efforts to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by rare disorders.

The German Pavilion took center stage last week, unveiling groundbreaking technologies and innovations set to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain between Germany and Taiwan.

We once again joined forces with Silicon Saxony e.V., Europe’s largest microelectronics and smart systems cluster, to present the German Pavilion at SEMICON Taiwan 2026.

The booth brought together semiconductor companies, industry clusters, cities, investment promotion agencies, and professional service providers. Throughout the three-day event a series of expert presentations covered topics such as AI-ready smart fabs, high-tech facilities, smart manufacturing and more. Dirk Panter, Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action, once again led a delegation to Taiwan this year and joined the opening of the Pavilion.

A key highlight of the SEMICON was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Taiwan Electronic Equipment Industry Association (TEEIA) and Silicon Saxony e.V. during the opening ceremony. The agreement aims to expand business opportunities and deepen semiconductor industry collaboration between Taiwan and Europe. Another MoU was signed between the city of Chemnitz and Kaohsiung at the German Pavilion, building on existing contacts between the German city and Taiwan.

As Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, emphasized: "Through this year's German Pavilion, we look forward to connecting more German and Taiwanese companies, fostering concrete partnerships, and jointly strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the semiconductor supply chains in Europe and Taiwan."

As Europe’s largest robotics market and the fifth largest worldwide in 2024, Germany has strong expertise and innovative capabilities in the robotics industry. In 2024, Germany held a five percent share of the global robot installations. At the same time, Taiwan’s remarkable achievements in generative AI and its leading semiconductor industry offer significant potential for the future of robotics. Given the complementary strengths of Germany and Taiwan in robotics, our event provides a platform that brings together experts from across the robotics ecosystem.

During the event, robotics experts will share their knowledge about current developments and trends in industry. In addition, we will celebrate the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between a German and a Taiwanese company.

Recently, our interns had the pleasure of visiting Freudenberg Far Eastern Spunweb Co. Ltd. in Taoyuan, where we received a warm welcome from Ivy Chen (HR Manager), Michelle Hsu (HR Assistant Manager), and Walter Tseng (VP and GM of F&F APAC).

The visit centered on a cultural exchange between interns, featuring Taiwanese snacks, discussions on cultural traditions, and an open dialogue about life and work in both countries. A relaxed lunch with Freudenberg employees further encouraged meaningful conversations, cross-cultural learning, and new connections. 

The program also included presentations about both our offices and a tour of Freudenberg's production facilities, offering our interns valuable insights into the company's operations. Particularly impressive were the company's strong sustainability initiatives and commitment to responsible manufacturing.

We extend our sincere thanks to the entire Freudenberg team for their generous hospitality and for providing such a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives.

Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) Welfare Center in Hsinchu, where we received a warm welcome from Ruth Kuan-Ju Chen, Executive Director of TFRD, together with Emily Liang, General Manager North East Asia at CENTOGENE.

During the visit, Ms. Chen provided a comprehensive tour of the center and shared valuable insights into TFRD's work supporting individuals and families affected by rare disorders.

Highlights included a visit to the community vegetable garden and a hands-on spring roll making activity, offering a glimpse into the supportive and welcoming environment that the center offers. The visit concluded with a shared lunch, leaving us deeply impressed by the warmth, dedication, and commitment of the TFRD team.

Following an earlier meeting at our office, where we discussed opportunities for collaboration, we are now pleased to announce a new partnership for this year's Goose Dinner.

Donations generated by the event’s lucky draw will support TFRD's efforts to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by rare disorders, while CENTOGENE will join as main sponsor, helping to support this meaningful initiative.

Following the success of GrindingHub in Germany, the exhibition series will expand to the United States with the launch of GrindingHub Americas 2027, taking place in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 18–20 May 2027.

Organized by VDW, Messe Stuttgart, and Swissmem, the event will focus on the latest grinding, precision machining, and surface finishing technologies. Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine at the Forefront of Smart Shipping Innovation

Evergreen Marine has equipped 58,000 containers with smart sensors that monitor temperature, humidity, and cargo conditions in real time, with a particular focus on high-value and perishable goods. The data can also be shared with customs authorities to help speed up clearance procedures.

The initiative reflects the rapid adoption of smart shipping technologies, with 8.7 million smart containers deployed worldwide in 2026 and over 30% of global containers expected to be automated by 2027. Evergreen is Taiwan's largest shipping company and the seventh largest worldwide. Its A-class vessels have the world's highest known cargo capacity.

TSMC Invests in Next-Generation Packaging and Talent Development

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) plans to establish a presence in Kaohsiung's Baipu Industrial Park to accelerate the testing and validation of semiconductor materials and equipment. The planned 3-hectare site will feature clean rooms, laboratories, and modular facilities designed for advanced packaging research, joint development, and process innovation. 

Beyond R&D, the facility is intended to serve as a world-class training base for advanced packaging talent while strengthening links between local suppliers and global semiconductor supply chains. TSMC expects its chip-on-wafer-on-substrate advanced packaging capacity to grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 80% through next year and remain on a strong growth trajectory through 2029.

Taiwan Aims to Add 10,000 GPUs Through New Computing Center Program

Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) has launched a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) initiative to encourage private investment in computing power centers, with the goal of adding more than 10,000 GPUs' worth of computing capacity within a year. The ministry said the project is intended to strengthen Taiwan's AI ecosystem while relying on market-driven investment rather than direct government procurement.

The announcement follows discussions about Taiwan's AI competitiveness and computing capacity. MODA Minister Lin Yi-jing emphasized that computing infrastructure is only one part of a broader AI strategy, with government support also focusing on data, talent, marketing, and capital. Lin added that Taiwan's strong hardware industry positions the country to play a larger role in the development of sovereign AI systems worldwide.

Taiwanese Government Backs Expansion of Offshore Wind Capacity

Taiwan plans to expand its offshore wind capacity by an additional 15 to 18 GW, with Premier Cho Jung-tai outlining a government strategy focused on clear development targets, green financing, regulatory streamlining, and support for companies participating in international projects. The announcement was made at the inauguration of Ørsted's 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms.

The new projects contribute to Taiwan's growing offshore wind sector, which now comprises 514 turbines with a total installed capacity of 4.9 GW, making Taiwan the world's fifth-largest offshore wind market. The government views offshore wind as a key pillar of its long-term energy strategy and is preparing for rising electricity demand through a comprehensive 10-year power supply plan.
