Dear Subscriber,
As global supply chains continue to evolve, cooperation between Taiwan and Europe is becoming increasingly important. Germany and Taiwan share a strong foundation for collaboration in advanced manufacturing, automation, aerospace and other future-oriented industries. With businesses on both sides actively seeking new partnerships and opportunities for exchange, creating platforms for meaningful dialogue remains more relevant than ever.
Against this backdrop, this edition highlights several opportunities to deepen German-Taiwanese cooperation taking place in Berlin. From our upcoming Supply-Chain Connect: Taiwan Meets Germany matchmaking event on November 30 to the 23rd Germany-Taiwan Joint Business Council Meeting (JBC) on December 1, we continue to create platforms that bring together businesses, policymakers, and innovators from both sides.
From our Business Alliance, we are pleased to share that igus launched a new humanoid service robot Iggy Rob Home. Designed for applications ranging from education to research and customer service, the robot demonstrates how German innovation in robotics is bringing automation into an expanding range of real-world environments.
If you are interested in learning more about real-world Taiwan-Germany business cases in robotics, we warmly invite you to join our Taiwan-Germany Forum: Building Bridges in Robotics on November 12 in Taipei.

Humanoid Robotics from Germany: igus Launches New Service Robot
|
|
|
igus has expanded its humanoid robotics portfolio with the launch of the Iggy Rob Home, a cost-effective, CE-compliant service robot designed for use in education, research, reception areas, and other service environments. Building on the Iggy Rob Industrial platform introduced in 2025, the new model starts at €55,000 and is developed and manufactured entirely in Germany. Rather than using humanoid legs, the robot is mounted on an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) base, which igus considers a more practical and economically viable solution for real-world applications.
Both Iggy Rob variants share the same core architecture, featuring up to 16 degrees of freedom (DOF), autonomous navigation through LIDAR and 3D camera systems, up to eight hours of runtime, and dual robotic arms that can be replaced or upgraded with other grippers and end-effectors. The open platform is based on ROS 2, supports fleet operation, and allows extensive customization. For the Home version, igus added service-oriented features such as smoother motion profiles, a display for simple facial expressions, an integrated linear axis for extended reach, a rear transport basket, wireless charging, and enhanced object recognition capabilities.
The Iggy Rob Home is designed to combine mobility, intelligent automation, and ease of use, enabling deployment even by users without advanced robotics expertise. Through network-based mission control and real-time data exchange, it can interact with external AI systems and support applications ranging from material transport and pick-and-place tasks to AI training and research.

Gudeng Opens Arizona Facility to Support U.S. Semiconductor Expansion
Taiwanese semiconductor equipment supplier Gudeng Precision Industrial has officially launched operations at its new Arizona plant, further expanding its global manufacturing footprint alongside the growing semiconductor ecosystem being built around TSMC’s U.S. investments. The new facility is expected to strengthen Gudeng’s ability to serve customers in North America and support the ongoing localization of semiconductor supply chains.
At the opening ceremony, Chairman Chiu Ming-chien described the Arizona plant as a key milestone in Gudeng’s global expansion strategy amid shifting supply chain dynamics. He highlighted Arizona’s rapidly developing semiconductor cluster, anchored by TSMC’s advanced manufacturing operations and future packaging facilities, as well as the state’s talent pool and support for advanced manufacturing. Gudeng plans to use the site as an initial parts-processing production base and grow alongside its customers in the U.S. market.

Foxconn Revenue Tops NT$1 Trillion for the First Time
Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) reported record September revenue of NT$1.16 trillion, up 38.4% year-on-year, marking the first time the company’s monthly revenue has surpassed the NT$1 trillion threshold. The strong performance was driven by robust demand across its cloud and networking, electronic components, computing products, and smart consumer electronics businesses, particularly smartphones and AI-related products.
The company also posted record third-quarter revenue of NT$3.27 trillion, significantly exceeding market expectations. Foxconn attributed the growth largely to strong demand for AI servers, as customers accelerated orders tied to artificial intelligence applications. Looking ahead, the company expects momentum from AI-related products and the traditional peak season for ICT products to continue supporting performance, while noting that global political and economic uncertainties remain key factors to watch.

Taiwan and Slovakia Advance Semiconductor Cooperation
Taiwan and Slovakia have signed a new semiconductor cooperation agreement, marking the fourth phase of a bilateral program running through June 2027. The partnership focuses on semiconductor testing and packaging, helping Slovakia strengthen capabilities in the later stages of chip manufacturing and support the resilience of its automotive supply chain.
According to Taiwan’s representative to Slovakia, David Lee, the initiative is designed to develop capabilities that Slovakia previously lacked, rather than competing with, existing semiconductor activities in neighboring European markets. The program also places a strong emphasis on talent development. Since 2022, Taiwan has provided 270 scholarships to researchers from Slovakia and Romania, and recently welcomed eight Slovak researchers to SEMICON Taiwan 2026. Lee noted that most participating engineers have returned home, helping build local expertise and laying the foundation for long-term semiconductor cooperation.

Taiwan Expands Support for Domestic Drone Industry
Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has approved 27 drone development projects worth approximately NT$780 million (US$24.4 million), significantly increasing support for the sector as part of efforts to strengthen domestic drone capabilities and supply-chain resilience. The program supports the development of complete drone systems as well as key technologies such as flight control, communications, payloads, and power systems, while also encouraging closer cooperation between manufacturers and component suppliers.
The largest subsidy, NT$100 million, was awarded to Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) for the development of heavy-duty drones with advanced networking capabilities. According to the ministry, the drones will incorporate technologies including AI recognition, 3D positioning, multimodal sensing, and anti-jamming features to improve operational resilience. Planned applications include emergency deliveries to outlying islands, maritime rescue missions, and deliveries for remote communities.
