Welcome!

Dear Reader,

Business relationships are built not only in meeting rooms but also through personal encounters and cultural exchange. This is why we are delighted to celebrate our annual German Oktoberfest events in Taichung and Taipei this week. We are especially pleased to see both events fully booked and participation continuing to grow, with more than 260 guests expected in Taichung, nearly double last year's attendance, and almost 700 participants joining us in Taipei.

The strong response highlights the importance of building cultural bridges between Germany and Taiwan. Reflecting this commitment, we recently hosted a workshop at Heraeus, where Taiwanese employees gained valuable insights into German business culture and etiquette.

Earlier this month, we participated in the Taoyuan Sustainable Energy Forum, where international experts and industry representatives discussed the future of energy resilience and sustainable industrial development. As Taiwan's largest industrial city, Taoyuan plays a key role in the island's economic development, making the forum an important platform for dialogue on the energy transition and opportunities for closer international cooperation.

Innovation and sustainability are also reflected in the work of our member companies. igus has opened applications for the 13th manus award, recognizing innovative engineering solutions that advance both efficiency and sustainability.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming many of you to our upcoming events, including the Harbour Beats Festival,  Taiwan-Germany Forum: Building Bridges in Robotics, Supply-Chain Connect: Taiwan Meets Germany, and the 23rd Germany-Taiwan Joint Business Council Meeting and more!

Wishing you a great week ahead!

What does it take to power the industries of the future? — Taoyuan Sustainable Energy Forum

As demand for electricity grows worldwide, energy resilience and sustainability are moving to the top of both business and government agendas.

Taoyuan, Taiwan's largest industrial city, plays a critical role in supporting the island's industrial development. Under the theme “Towards 2030: A New Energy Blueprint for the City,” the 2026 Taoyuan Sustainable Energy Forum brought together international experts and stakeholders to explore how cities and industries can balance growing energy demand with sustainability goals.

We were pleased to participate in the forum, where Linda Blechert, General Manager of our service unit, DEinternational Taiwan Ltd., shared the German perspective on the global energy transition and the opportunities for closer German-Taiwanese cooperation. Additional international perspectives were provided by Mr. Marco Lombardi, Head of the Italian Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei, and Mr. Bas Pulles, Representative and Head of Mission, Netherlands Office Taipei.

In her remarks, Ms. Blechert highlighted that achieving net-zero emissions and maintaining industrial competitiveness must go hand in hand. A successful energy transition relies on a mix of renewable energy, electrification, energy efficiency, hydrogen technologies, and smarter energy systems.

By combining our complementary strengths in industrial technologies, semiconductors, ICT, and advanced manufacturing, Germany and Taiwan can help build industries that are not only greener, but also more competitive and resilient.

We thank Mayor Simon Chang and Mr. Chang Cheng, Director-General of the Department of Economic Development, for their warm welcome, as well as all participants for the lively discussions and valuable contributions.

Shared Democratic Values

As trusted democratic partners, Taiwan and Germany share a commitment to transparency, rule of law, intellectual property protection, and fair market practices. This shared foundation of trust is essential for secure, long-term international business collaborations.

Aerospace, Security & Defense Collaboration

The strongest cooperation potential lies in dual-use applications where trusted suppliers, secure electronics and advanced manufacturing capabilities are decisive: unmanned aerial systems (UAS/drones), satellite communications, sensor systems, and defense supply chain resilience - For both sides, the objective is the creation of reliable industrial links in strategically relevant technology fields.

ITRI and eJoule Partner to Advance High-Capacity Battery Technology

The Industrial Research Institute (ITRI) and Taiwanese battery technology company eJoule Technologies have joined forces to develop medium- and high-lithium ternary batteries for drones, robotics, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles. As demand grows for lighter, longer-lasting batteries, the partnership aims to overcome key challenges related to battery lifespan, safety, and commercialization while strengthening local supply chain capabilities.

The partners have co-developed a battery solution combining single-crystal cathode materials, advanced electrode fabrication, and power cell certification technologies. According to ITRI, testing showed the material remained stable through extensive charge-discharge cycles, delivering a lifespan comparable to lithium iron phosphate batteries while offering improved safety over conventional ternary materials.

Taiwan Plans U.S. Industrial Parks to Strengthen AI Supply Chains

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) plans to develop a series of industrial parks in the United States under a model in which private companies provide the investment while the government offers support. Developed in cooperation with the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), each park is expected to require investments of US$2 billion to US$4 billion and aims to help Taiwanese suppliers expand their overseas operations.

The initiative is intended to strengthen supply chains supporting AI and semiconductor manufacturing, including suppliers working with TSMC, Foxconn, Nvidia, and other technology companies. The first project is expected to be located in Texas. Additional locations under consideration reportedly include Arizona, Mexico, Poland, and India. The parks are intended to help small and medium-sized Taiwanese businesses expand into overseas markets and strengthen supply chain partnerships.

CIER Raises Taiwan’s 2026 Economic Growth Forecast to 12.16%

The Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) has raised its 2026 economic growth forecast for Taiwan to 12.16%, citing continued strength in artificial intelligence-related demand, exports, and domestic consumption. AI-driven demand for semiconductors and electronics remains the key growth engine, with private consumption projected to increase 4.94% and exports and imports expected to grow 40.51% and 39.09%, respectively.

CIER also forecasts private investment growth of 10.77%, supported by expanding AI infrastructure spending from global cloud service providers and ongoing capacity expansion by Taiwanese companies. While analysts remain optimistic about the sector’s long-term prospects, they note that maintaining the current pace of investment growth may become increasingly challenging. Meanwhile, CIER raised its inflation forecast to 2.06%, citing geopolitical tensions and elevated energy prices.
